The number of sessions depends on several factors, including the body area being treated, hair colour and type, skin type and individual physical characteristics.

Intervals between sessions:

The first sessions take place 4 weeks apart. After that the intervals are extended to 6–8 weeks, as hair growth slows down.

Why are several sessions necessary?

The laser only works on hair in the active growth phase (anagen phase), not on resting hair. As not all hair grows at the same time, several sessions are needed to treat all hair follicles.

1. No sunbathing (including solarium) for 2 weeks before the treatment. A tan increases the risk of burns and reduces the effectiveness of the laser.

2. No hair removal from the root (e.g. waxing, sugaring) for 3–4 weeks before the treatment. Shaving only.

3. Do not use aggressive peels or scrubs on the area to be treated for 3–5 days before the session.

4. Shave the treatment area thoroughly 6–12 hours before the procedure. Waxing is strictly prohibited for 4 weeks before the procedure. Do not apply any cream or deodorant before the procedure and do not take antibiotics.

5. Do not take antibiotics from the tetracycline or fluoroquinolone groups for 2 weeks before the treatment, as they make the skin more sensitive to the laser.

These rules help to minimise the risk of side effects and maximise the effectiveness of the treatment.

1. Avoid the sun

Avoid direct sunlight for the first 2–3 weeks after the treatment. Sunburn can lead to pigmentation and inflammation. Use sunscreen with a high SPF.

2. No solarium

The same applies to the solarium: UV rays can cause skin burns and damage.

3. No aggressive cosmetic products

For the first 3–7 days after the treatment, avoid peels and products with acids or retinoids on the treated skin.

4. Do not touch or scratch the treated skin

Mild redness and irritation may occur in the first days after the treatment, but avoid rubbing or scratching the skin to prevent inflammation.

5. No hot baths or sauna

Avoid hot baths, saunas and other procedures that raise body temperature for 2–3 days after the treatment to prevent skin irritation.

6. No other skin treatments

Laser hair removal on tattoos is not recommended, as the laser can affect the tattoo pigments, which may cause fading, colour changes or even destroy the design. Treating the skin in the tattooed area can also lead to irritation, burns or skin damage.

Good news: The skin around the tattoo can still be treated. The tattoo is carefully covered before the treatment and protected from the laser. This keeps your tattoo intact while the surrounding skin is reliably freed of hair.

Laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Although there is no scientific evidence that it harms the unborn child or the baby, skin sensitivity may be increased during this time, making the treatment less comfortable and effective. In addition, hormonal changes can affect hair growth, which also reduces the effectiveness of the treatment. To be safe, it is better to postpone the treatment and consult a doctor.

According to statistics, the amount of hair is reduced by 10–25% after the very first session.

This percentage increases with each further treatment.

The duration depends on the size of the area. Underarms take about 10 minutes, the bikini line about 15 minutes, legs about 30 minutes and arms 20 minutes. Depending on the area, treatments are about four to six weeks apart.

Laser hair removal is not possible on white, red or grey hair, because the laser targets melanin, the pigment contained in the hair. Melanin absorbs the light energy of the laser, converts it into heat and thus destroys the hair follicle, preventing further hair growth.

Why it does not work:

1. White and grey hair contain hardly any melanin. Without pigment the laser has no "target" to act on, so the treatment is ineffective.

2. Red hair contains a different type of melanin – pheomelanin, which absorbs light less well. This significantly reduces the effect of the laser, and the follicles remain undamaged.

How the diode laser works:

1. Absorption of energy by melanin:

The light energy of the diode laser penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft and hair root.

2. Conversion of light into heat:

The absorbed energy is converted into heat, heating the hair follicle to about 70–80°C. This leads to coagulation (destruction) of the cells responsible for hair growth.

3. Selective action:

The laser energy acts exclusively on the hair pigment while sparing the surrounding skin, which reduces the risk of burns and irritation.

4. Slowing of hair growth:

The destruction of the hair follicle causes the hair to fall out gradually. With repeated treatments (usually 6–8 sessions) active hair follicles are completely destroyed, so hair growth is greatly reduced or stopped.

When performed correctly by trained staff with high-quality equipment, laser hair removal is not harmful to health. The procedure acts exclusively on the melanin in the hair and destroys the hair follicle without damaging the skin or internal organs.

Why is laser hair removal safe?

1. Local action:

The laser beam only penetrates the upper layers of the skin (2–4 mm deep), where the hair follicles are located. Internal organs and deeper tissue are not reached.

2. Modern technology:

The devices have cooling systems and adjustable energy settings, which minimise the risk of burns and increase comfort during the treatment.

3. No radiation risk:

The laser emits only light energy, which has nothing to do with ionising radiation (such as X-rays).

4. Short exposure:

The laser pulse lasts only a few milliseconds – long enough to destroy the hair follicle, but too short to damage surrounding tissue.
